First a little history on the dolly. The real name for a dolly is a hand truck, which has been with us since the early 1900's. The name actually dates back from England in the 16th century, where a washtub was called a dolly and then a machine that puched iron and made rivets was called a dolly. Then eventually a small wheeled platform became known as a dolly.
Sought after replica pieces would generally include cherry cabinets, antique wardrobes and dining room furniture; these are popular for setting any room apart from the rest. On the whole, these Regency pieces are affordable and will not damage the bank balance; they all come complete with many unique and distinctive features for example, clean edges and polished wood. Many people crave the look that only antique furniture can provide without having to pay the excessive prices. Purchasing and restoring genuine antique pieces can be extremely costly, therefore reproduction furniture provides a cost effective solution to this.
During the latter part of the Renaissance period (1602-1649), Jacobean style emerged. The design of furniture became simper and restrained in comparison to the Elizabethan period. In the US, this type of furniture is often called Pilgrim furniture. During the early part of the Jacobean era, wood dominated the furniture scene. However, during the time of Charles I, padded upholstery and more intricate embroidery became vogue. Some say that Moorish influence can also be seen in furniture styles during this period.
